Importer Exporter Code
The Importer Exporter Code, or IEC, is a special 10-digit code that is given to organizations or people engaged in international trade by the Ministry of Commerce, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), and the Government of India. Anyone who wants to import or export products and services to or from India must comply with this requirement.
Procedure for Application
An application must be submitted to the DGFT in order to receive an IEC.
The application must be filled out and submitted online via the DGFT website, along with the required paperwork and fees.
Certificate of Digital Signature (DSC): Acquire a Class 2 DSC from a recognized organization. In order to submit the application online, this is needed. The necessary fee for IEC registration must be paid.
Determine the Type of License/Registration
IEC Generation: Upon processing and approval of the application, the applicant will receive the IEC from the DGFT.
Application Tracking: The DGFT website allows you to monitor the progress of your application online.
Modification of IEC or Surrender (if necessary): You can use the DGFT portal to make any necessary changes to the information you submitted when registering for an IEC or to give up your IEC.
Obtaining the IEC Certificate: The applicant will get the IEC certificate after their application is accepted. For purposes of clearing customs and other international trade-related operations, this certificate is essential.
Conclusion
Companies and individuals engaged in international trade in India must ensure they have a valid IEC in order to facilitate smooth and legal import and export operations. It is recommended that you speak with the DGFT or another qualified consultant for the most accurate and current information regarding the requirements and IEC application process.
